SUMMARY:Frank Lobdell Figure Drawings
UID:events_stanford_edu_19641
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of approximately 60 figure drawings in ink\, pe
ncil\, crayon\, and wash. From the late 1950s to the mid 1960s\, Frank L
obdell participated in weekly evening figure-drawing sessions with his f
riends Richard Diebenkorn\, Elmer Bischoff\, and David Park. Essentially
a nonfigurative artist\, Lobdell used these weekly drawing sessions as
a springboard to develop a vocabulary of abstraction that was informed b
y a study of the human body and grounded in the formal issues of express
 ionist gesture and line.\n\n

SUMMARY:From Their Studios
UID:events_stanford_edu_19451
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition reflects not only the excellence of current st
udio art practice at Stanford but also connotes the exchange of ideas am
ong faculty and students and the quality of the art experience on campus
. “Stanford's art faculty continues a tradition that began with the foun
ding of the university in the late 19th century. Studio artists have flo
urished at Stanford\, and today's faculty is particularly strong\,” said
Cantor Arts Center's Freidenrich Director Thomas K. Seligman. A series
of 12 public lectures by the artists starts September 17 and continues t
hrough December 3\, presented in the Cantor Arts Center auditorium at 7
p.m. on Thursdays (excluding November 26) and also on Wednesday\, Octobe
r 14. Documentary films will be screened prior to presentations by the f
aculty filmmakers. A complete schedule for this series can be found on t
 he Center's Web site: museum.stanford.edu.

SUMMARY:Rodin! The Complete Stanford Collection
UID:events_stanford_edu_14601
DESCRIPTION:The Cantor Arts Center expands the display of Rodin's work\,
with the Center's entire collection of Rodin's bronzes\, plasters\, and
waxes on view. The majority of the collection remains on the ground flo
or\, occupying the south rotunda\, much of the present Rodin gallery\, a
nd extending into a second major gallery. One gallery includes youthful
works\, a rotating selection of works-on-paper\, and objects directly a
ssociated with the "Gates of Hell." In the new second gallery\, sculptu
res are divided thematically\, either by project ("Burghers of Calais\,"
for example) or subject (portraiture\, mythology). This new installati
on better serves students and visitors by making the smaller works as im
mediately accessible for study as the large scale works that remain perp
etually on view in the B. Gerald Cantor Rodin Sculpture Garden adjacent
 to the museum.

UID:events_stanford_edu_21247
DESCRIPTION:The "personal statement" is an open-ended project that each s
tudent produces during two weeks to uniquely introduce themselves to the
design community. Previous years' projects have included everything fro
m a swirling vortex of water with flames shooting out from the center to
a life size replica of the Wright Brothers' first airplane. Though the
projects are unique every year\, there will most definitely be demos and
visually interesting displays. The event occurs every year\, at the end
of the Autumn Quarter. It is the most public event that the Stanford Pr
